George L. Stearns, Esq.
Dear Sir,

I am expecting to go into the Southern part of Kansas for 10 or 12 days, leaving here on Monday morning – Dr. Webb was here Tuesday evening, the next day he went to Atchison, and thought he might come back, so as to go down with those who propose to stir up the peoples. The Free State men are getting into good shape for the election and if there is no invasion, or fraud will come out well. The Constitutional Convention adjourned Friday evening – until the 3d, Monday in Oct., their excuse was that they must prepare for the election. – It is their intention to wait and see how the parties will stand – Pappa Ransom, is not making much head way with his stump speeches – he principally indulges in glorifying the past and present administrations, some times all the Democracy have done for the Country – He does not profess to know much of Kansas matters, as he only came here in Jany last, the people are more anxious

to hear about Kansas – not a few who have always been Democrats have said to me they know enough of Democracy. It is Kansas they are after. I may not be gone so long as I have named, tho’ the probability is that I shall.

I am Yrs. Truly
