Dear Wife

Thinking you Would have Some anxiety about me I take my pen to inform you that I am on my way to Kansas City I thought when I Wrote you Last that I Should Return as Soon as my health would permitt But it Seems to me that providence has ordered that I Shall go on to the End of my Journey – My health is improved – I think I Shall get a Long if I am carefull I have a cold in my head But think it will be better in a day or two – thare is Such an Exitement here it is imposable to tell how things are out in the teretory So I am going up to Kansas City to See if I can tell any thing about the trouth of affairs thare are a grate many Reports Some State that thare Eleven Hundred men up at Lawrence all armed With Sharps Rifels and Six cannon – the Last Report is that the proslavery men have Eight Hundred in the vicinity of Lawrence – the governor has Sent out for two thousand men to help put down the Rebils as they are called
