Mrs S. C. Pomeroy

Dear Madam

Your last two favors were duly received but owing to pressure of business matters have remained unswered, this delinquincy on my part you will please overlook and I will try and do better in future –

I am very glad to hear of the continued prosperity of Atchison – hope the Rail Road troubles are settled you wrote of – I expect soon to hear Russell & Majors are freighting the army supplies from your town and also hope they will conclude to start the “Pony Express” from there instead of St Joseph as Mr Pomeroy succeeded in getting the Directors of Hannibal & St Joseph R. R to remove from contract with Russell & Majors the restriction obligating them to start from St Joseph – all this however I presume Mr P. has written you of –

Mrs Hyatt joins with me in our thanks for your kind invitation to Theodore to visit you which we hope he will do in May or June when the beautiful prarie flowers are in

bloom – this new sight to him is one long to be remembered –

If you should come East this season Mrs H. hopes to have the pleasure of your company in New York –

I shall be happy at all times to hear from you (particularly during the absence of Mr P.) – in order that I may keep posted in regard to affairs in Atchison and Winthrop, the latter I fear does not improve very rapidly notwithstanding it is the terminus of two important R. Roads – more particularly the Weston & Atchison Road, of which I have heard nothing very recently – what has become of it? –

My good brother still remains in Washington jail and appears to enjoy his condition exceedingly – in his last letter to me he says “I am much stronger & feel better every way – I think if I can only manage to retain my situation & not get turned out that I shall get well” – I take it if the Senate knew of his happiness they would expel him very soon –

Very Truly

Theodore Hyatt
