Untitled Document Emporia Oct 13th. 1859
S. N. Wood
Dear Sir
after the cursed “Ague I avail myself of the present to write you about matters & things here. We had a “big” fight on Dr Bailey and Eskridge but the latter came off 47 majority. Jos Moon was an Eskridge delegate but went against him in the convention hense Eskridge was defeated. Stephen Elliott-from Freeman was the nominee. The Republicans wont support him. Generally the Democrats will. The Democrats wont support Goddard niither will the Republicans I think.

There will be a call for a Republican mass Convention. Your article on Emporia in your last isue was like throwing a bomb in a city among the would be office holders Served them wright “Sam” give them some more. O yes a majority of the Republican central committ are Democrats hurrah for old Breckenridge this shows what shrewd Republicans we have give them “hell” in your next. Esqr Rankin an independent candidate for judge do all you can for him he is your friend. I want to see you I can tell you much. My highest Reguard to yourself & Mrs Wood, I am yours truly
J. F. Newton
