Dear Major,

As the Territorial Cent. Committee, Have called a State Convention to be held at Lawrence on the 25th Inst. for the purpose of nominating a State Ticket. I desire to obtain the nomination of Atty General upon the State Ticket if my friends deem it adviseable. I have consulted with them here & elsewhere & they all tell me I am entitled to it & they will support me. You know my claims if any, upon the Party as a Free State man & a Democrat. I should like to secure your influence in your County & at the Convention if agreeable for that position.
