Mr M. H. Moore Esq.
Dear Sir
I arrived here safe & sound about five days after leaving Weston I like the country here better than any that I have seen in Kansas. I suppose that you know the country full as well as I do, if not better so that any description I might give you would be time thrown away There have been several parties on exploring expeditions up the Smokyhill river & they report very favorably of the country
There are several towns laid out above here one of them (Saline) being about forty miles up, near which are some of the largest & finest beds of gypsum in the world There are two houses up & finished in Pawnee Mr Knapps a boarding house (he has about twenty boarders) & Klutz’s Hotel
I have about thirty men at work on the warehouse & we are getting along very well It will be done in time for the first session of the Legislature.
[pg2]
There will be a good many fine stone houses put up here this season amongst the rest a Catholic & an Episcopal church I have received no mail since coming here I think there must be something for me in Weston It may not be directed to your care please inquire for me & if there is anything please forward
Go in for that contract strong
Give my respects to all the people of Weston & let me hear from you soon
Yours truly
Warren Beckwith
