Mr. S. L. Adair

Dear Sir,

I dress you a few lines informing you that we are all well at this time I should have written to you before this time, but I write so seldom that it is some what a task to do so I have not seen any our friends, on [Point] since the first of January, we hear from them frequently I believe they are all well We have not herd from you for 2 or 3 months , the last account I saw was in the American Missionary a paper have been taken the last year, and will continue to take, and give my support to that missionary association so far as I feel able. Whe have reason to believe that it has & is doing a great deal of good, & is destined to do more in building up a pure Christianity, than all those proslavery Conservative Societies in the land,

[Page 2]

I had intended some month since to ask your opinion and advice about sending some money to you to enter some land in Kansas for me, thinking it would be a free state, I had such hopes some time ago, but all such hopes have fled, I believe now that when your Teritory will be admited in to the Union as a state it will it will come in with Slavery, I see nothing to prevent it It appears to me that it was the intention of the Democrt party from the first move of the abrogation of the Missouri Compromise was to make Kansas a slave State they have the power and the will to do it, I mean the leaders or head of that party, and you know that the head of that party is in the south and its tail in the north, (where the head goes the tail follows)

[Page 3]

We know also that what ever the south have asked for, she has got. Now she asks that slavery shall be planted in your Teritory , or she will desolve the union, then the Administration will fear such a calamity and grant her request, perhaps I am mistaken, Will you pleas give your opinion about it; and whether the free state men will vote for delegates at the election ordered by the bogus Legislature, We have had a very cold Spring so far, [xxx] is very scarce corn is dear, Sarah is at New Market, at my sons in laws, I have not seen her for 3 week, I expect her at home soon, pleas write soon and give me the probable results of the difficulties of Kansas.
Yours etc C. G. Dick
