Dear Sir

When I was in Kansas last Mo, looking after Em Aid Comp matters – Mr. Pomeroy said you had promised to pay $2500 for some lots, on the 30th inst; & I agreed to take his draft as Cash; he sent it to our Treas, Mr. Higginson, who deposited it for Ace & Cole – but it has been retd unaccepted, & as I guaranteed the payment of it to the Comp., the Treas has turned it in to my hands & it is now my private property –

Mr. Pomeroy will be much mortified, if it is unpaid; & I beg you will not force me to send it back to him for payment, as I cannot lay out of the money & should have to insist on his

paying it, at whatever cost –

I have been trying to raise $1000, to help Mr. Pomeroy in the Election, his chance for the U.S. Senate, being very good; but he needs a little pecuniary assistance, have authorized him to draw for $600 & he is anxious for me to Telegraph him to draw for the balance; now if you will Telegraph me tomorrow that his dft for the $2500. for Higginson will be paid, before Dec. 3rd /59 – I will add $100 to the subscription, & this make my own sub, in this; $200. & no doubt be able to make up the balance at once –

It is very important, that he should have this help: if he is Elected he will have great influence on the course of the future Rail Roads in Kansas; & the value of this to Atchison & vicinity, need not be named to you – waiting your prompt reply by Telegraph & Mail
Yours Very Truly
