Thaddeus Hyatt N. Y. May 18th
Very dear sir,
I tried to see you before I left the Territory – but from all I can learn I was entirely misinformed of your whereabouts – I left a letter for you in the P.O. at Lawrence containing Schedule of the property bought at Atchison, and also some I have bargain for but could not get the title perfected until the Land office is opened.
You & I have every alternate lot upon 330 acres adjoining the present Loan Plat – Some few lots & buildings in the Town – one half of the “Squatters Sovereign” (Stringfellows organ) McBratney of Ohio owns the other half – We have hoisted a Free State Flag!! You will soon see notices of it in the Tribune and all the papers.
I have let our Company have the Hotel & lots connected – we are now
going to put up Flouring Mill etc etc
[written in margin] I remain here one week or 10 days more. Then return
When – where shall I see you! Write me here --
