Letter, S. M. Irvin to Dear Sir [Gen. John Bayless] Author: Irvin, S.M. Date: October 26, 1857 S. M. Irvin, a member of the Highland Town Company, wrote from Highland, Kansas Territory to John Bayless, President of the Company and future Superintendent of Schools in Doniphan County. Irvin discussed different options regarding the development of an "educational company" and seminarian schools. Irvin also looked ahead to other aspects of town development, and stated that it would be advantageous to find a mechanic to buy and run the local mill.
