Letter, William Franklin Johns to Dear Uncle [J. W. Denver] Author: Denver, Mary C. ; Johns, William Franklin Date: February 7, 1858 Williams Franklin Johns wrote from Wilmington, Ohio, to his uncle, James William Denver, who was "Acting Governor" in Kansas Territory. Johns told his uncle about his recent return to school and of his desire to travel to Lecompton. He also recounted the comments of a family friend, Mr. Creamer, who made Kanzas sound like an "awful place" full of villianous "Yanks" who should be swept out. The last page is a short letter from Mary C. Denver, which contained news of family and friends, but also included commentary about Kansas Territory.
