Photograph, Charles Robinson and Deputy Author: No authors specified. Date: May 1856 Portrait of Charles Robinson, free state leader, under arrest by a Deputy, in May 1856. Robinson was arrested in Lexington, Missouri, with his wife, Sarah, as they traveled East. He was taken to Westport, the proslavery camp near Lawrence, back to Kansas City, to Leavenworth, and then to Lecompton. Robinson was arrested on charges of treason, and was held prisoner four months before being released on bail.
