Letter, S. C. Pomeroy to Mr. Thaddeus Hyatt Author: Pomeroy, S. C. (Samuel Clarke), 1816-1891 Date: November 4, 1860 This letter, written from Atchison by Samuel Pomeroy, was addressed to Thaddeus Hyatt, president of the National Kansas Committee. Pomeroy informed Hyatt of the desperate need for aid, and he related the tale of a young woman who came to him seeking help for their starving families. He also spoke of a man from Eureka who rode 160 miles to obtain bread for himself and his neighbors. Pomeroy promised Hyatt that he would continue to send reports and updates.
