Report of H. J. Strickler, Commissioner to Audit Claims of Citizens of the Territory of Kansas Author: Strickler, Hiram Jackson Date: 1859 Hugh Ward of Leavenworth County filed claim # 115 for the loss and/or use of his horses, his home as a hospital, and various supplies by the pro-slavery party. The damages were done by a group of men commanded by Captain H. C. Dunn. Each claimant had to submit an itemized list and have two witnesses attest to the losses claimed. Even though many of these claims were approved for payment, no funds were ever appropriated or distributed.
