Joseph Denison wrote from Parkville, Missouri, to Isaac Goodnow, who was traveling . Denison reported that his solicitations for support of a college in Manhattan, Kansas Territory, had recently been well received. Among the interested parties were C. Evans and P. Judson of Evanstan, Illinois, who had been successful in building up Northwestern University in that area. Samuel Pomeroy also conveyed his interest, having pledged an investment to the cause on behalf of the New England Emigrant Aid Company.

Joseph Denison wrote from Manhattan, Kansas Territory, to Isaac Goodnow, who was traveling in New England. Denison reported recent college construction expenditures to Goodnow, illustrating his attempts to "financier as faithfully and as economically" as he could, and updated his on the construction's progress. He encouraged Goodnow to sell city lots and obtain land warrants, both of which were in high demand.

Letter, Joseph Denison [to Isaac Goodnow]

Joseph Denison attached this letter to Isaac Goodnow to the end of a longer one written by Isaac's wife Ellen. Denison advised Goodnow to purchase insurance for the college buildings as soon as possible, to prevent a large investment loss. He also suggested that, once the roof of the building was completed, that someone sleep there at night for security reasons. Denison added that the railroad from Wyandotte to Fort Riley now had a stop in Manhattan, complete with depot.

Joseph Denison wrote from Soldier Creek, Jackson County, K.T., to Isaac Goodnow. Denison reported on the construction of the Bluemont College building, advising him that the lower floor would need plastering before classes could be held there in the coming winter. He recounted the sinking of the steamer "Gus Linn", which was carrying building supplies for the College, on a sandbar in the Kansas River. Denison also recommended that Goodnow see about purchasing a common seal for the Trustees of Bluemont College to use on legal documents.

Joseph Denison wrote from Powhattan, Brown County, K.T., to Isaac Goodnow regarding issues of management of the church and college they had recently constructed. Denison had discovered that, due to the state of their treasury, some property needed to be sold in order to pay the taxes on the church lots. He also worried about the state of Bluemont College, as it had thus far only attracted 20 students.
