This minute book documented the founding of the Kickapoo City Association in Leavenworth County and its transactions through October 1, 1858. It contained the association's by-laws. It was a fairly complete example of how a town association conducted business, including surveying the proposed site, acquiring title to the land involved, sale of shares, and efforts to make the town attractive to prospective settlers. Meetings were held on the town site or in Weston, Missouri.

Letter, C. K. Holliday to My Dear Wife [Mary Holliday]

Date: February 11, 1855
Cyrus K. Holliday wrote to his wife, Mary Holliday, in Meadville, Pennsylvania from Lawrence, Kansas Territory, where he had stopped on his way to visit Governor Andrew H. Reeder at the Shawnee Indian Mission. Holliday hoped to make the growing Topeka the capital of Kansas Territory. In Lawrence, a hotel keeper had died and George W. Brown, editor of the Herald of Freedom, was ill. Despite mail-delaying winter storms further east, the weather continued mildly. Holliday described his financial investments and requested money for his trip to Meadville, more urgent as the birth of their first child approached.

Contract, plat ownership in Highland, Kansas Territory

This contract proposed the annexation of more land to the township of Highland, Kansas Territory, which would cause it to share a boundary with Iowa Indian Reserve lands. The remainder of the document described the conditions of land ownership within the plat, dividing it among seven men, and prohibiting the sale or production of "intoxicating drinks" on all named lands. The contract includes a hand-drawn map of the area discussed.
