Letter, Geo. S. Park to Isaac Goodnow

George Park wrote from Parkville, Missouri, to Isaac Goodnow, mentioning his efforts to obtain land for Goodnow's "Agricultural College". Park told Goodnow to have his "leading men" write letters to Congress in order to obtain a land grant. He also observed that emigrants were beginning to come in droves.

Document granting land to Pascal Fish on behalf of other Fish family members

This document, with President Buchanan's signature signed by a secretary, granted land to Pascal Fish and his family who were members of the "united tribe of Shawnee Indians." The land was granted under provisions of a treaty between the Shawnee Indians and the U. S. government signed May 10, 1854. Specific acreage in Johnson County was designated.

Letter, Tho. Ewing Jr to A. J. Isacks

Ewing addressed a number of issues in this letter to former territorial Kansas attorney general Andrew J. Isacks (1854-1857), who was in Washington, D.C. presumably lobbying Congress on behalf of Kansas admission, etc., but closed with some interesting comments on Leavenworth's interest in the promotion and development of the Smoky Hill route to the Pikes Peak region. Isacks was one of Ewing's principle partners in the Leavenworth, Pawnee, & Western Railroad venture and was undoubtedly busy lobbying for a railroad land grant from Congress.

Pamphlet," A Colony for an Indian Reserve in Kansas"

This pamphlet, written by Clinton Carter Hutchinson, U.S. Indian Agent of Ottawa Creek, Franklin County, Kansas, contains a brief history of the Ottawa Indian tribe (after contact with white settlers) and describes the land allotted to them in a treaty of June 24, 1862, which opened a portion of their land reserve to public sales. The remainder of the pamphlet serves as a type of almanac, advising potential settlers of the Kansas frontier lifestyle, what provisions are available or recommended, and what types of people and professions are desirable.
