According to this document, signed by the speaker of the Kansas House of Representatives, the assembly owed $68 ("mileage and per diem") to Mark W. Delahay for "services rendered" as chief clerk from January 2 to January 18, 1860. It was simply specified that Delahay was to receive $4 per day for 17 days.

Letter, Tho Sherwood to Friend Woodward

Thomas Sherwood wrote to Friend Woodward of the now-famous confrontation between Governor Andrew Reeder and Benjamin F. Stringfellow. According to Sherwood, the two men were only saved from shooting one another by the intervention of Reeder's private secretary, John Halderman, and the U.S. District Attorney for Kansas Territory, Andrew Isacks.

Robert Atkins Tovey, Sr., wrote to his wife, Eliza (Matthew) Tovey at their home in Albany, New York. Tovey mentioned his current task of finding a suitable land claim. He discussed the situations of his nearest neighbors as recent homesteaders and businessmen. Tovey also remarked on the "great deal of excitement" surrounding the prospect of forming a territorial legislature and anticipated "a smart fight" between proslavery and free state men.

Beckwith wrote from Pawnee, K. T., to Henry Miles Moore of Weston, Missouri. Beckwith described building construction in Pawnee, reporting that a warehouse would be completed in time for the first session of the Territorial Legislature and that Catholic and Episcopal churches were being built.

Letter, C. Robinson to Rev. E. E. Hale

Date: April 9, 1855
Charles Robinson, writing from Lawrence, K. T. to Edward Everett Hale, commented that Free State supporters were forming military companies in response to perceived "outrageous conduct" by Missourians during the March 30, 1855, election of representatives for the territorial legislature. Robinson asked Hale to send two hundred Sharp's rifles and two cannon for the use of Lawrence settlers.
