This flyer warned the citizens of Leavenworth that the city marshal, William Shockley, would begin enforcing the ordinance against discharging firearms within the city limits. It had "become so frequent as to endanger life and greatly annoy the quiet and peace of orderly citizens."

[T] military roads are already thronged with anxious hundreds, on foot, dragging hand carts, on mules, and with ox teams."

W.A. Simpson wrote for the Simpson Brothers from Lawrence, Kansas Territory, to Hiram Hill in Massachusetts. Simpson reported that the Lawrence City Council had passed a sidewalk ordinance, and had received a reasonable estimate for the work and materials to place them on Hill's properties.
